Fire hydrant
painting.
Private hydrants cleaned, prepped and repainted in the colors your utility and fire authority require.
Hydrant repainting
Visible.
Maintained.
Faded, chalky or peeling hydrants look neglected and are harder for crews to spot. We repaint private fire hydrants on commercial properties, apartment communities, HOAs, industrial sites and campuses with private hydrant systems across Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Bremerton, Olympia and Shelton.
Every hydrant is repainted in the colors approved by the owner and the local water utility or fire authority. We never change a hydrant’s color on request, because hydrant colors can signal flow capacity and system type to firefighters.
Hydrant painting includes
- Surface cleaning and preparation
- Removal of loose paint and minor surface rust
- Primer where the surface needs it
- Repainting in owner- or utility-approved colors
- Masking of identification plates, threads, caps and operating nuts
- Commercial, apartment, HOA, industrial and private hydrant systems
We do not paint identification plates, threads, caps, operating nuts or any component that must stay functional or legible. Hydrants owned by a water utility or city need that owner’s written permission. Every job requires the property owner’s approval before work begins.

FAQ
Questions
How much does fire hydrant painting cost?
A standard hydrant repaint is $200 per hydrant. Hydrants with heavy rust or peeling paint run $300 to $400 each, confirmed on site. Every visit has a $500 minimum service charge plus a $150 dispatch fee, so a single hydrant is $650 and several hydrants on one visit often cost less each.
Can you paint our hydrants a different color?
No. Hydrant colors follow the requirements of your water utility and local fire authority, and in many systems the color tells firefighters something about the hydrant. We repaint in the approved colors only.
Do you paint public hydrants on the street?
Hydrants owned by a city or water utility are maintained by that owner. We paint them only with the owner’s written permission. Most of our hydrant work is on private hydrants inside commercial, apartment, HOA and industrial properties.
What parts of the hydrant stay unpainted?
Identification plates, threads, caps, operating nuts and anything that must stay functional or legible are masked or left unpainted.
Can you paint hydrants and fire lane curbs on the same visit?
Yes. Hydrants, fire lane curbs and parking lot striping done together share one $500 minimum and one $150 dispatch fee.
